November is "Double Wait Time" Month

We all know that many students need "wait time" after a teacher asks a question to form their answer. This month, try and incorporate "Double Wait Time" into your instruction.

"Double Wait Time" is when you ask a question, and provide wait time before calling on someone. After the student gives their answer, provide another wait time, and then call on another student and ask them if they agree or disagree. Instead of giving instant feedback and moving on, incorporating double wait time into your lessons encourages students to evaluate other students' answers and gives the opportunity for everyone to formulate an answer.

How did "Double Wait Time" change the way students answer questions in your classroom? Did you find it useful? How did students react when you did not give immediate feedback?
